Sunday 29th March

We have successfully completed editing our opening and it has now been burned to a disk ready to be handed in on Monday. We had some trouble with the titles at first as the programme we chose to use (having been told it was the better one) was more complicated than we expected and so we had to be shown how to use it first. However, by staying after college on Wednesday and using a free on Friday our coursework is now finished.
As a group we believe that some things could have gone better (which we will state in our evaluation) but in general we are very pleased.

Keira

Monday 23rd March

We were going to re-film a couple of the shots to add in to our opening, but after getting Andy to watch it he suggested that it's fine as it is and there is no need to add more in. This is useful for us considering we are in danger of over-running the two minute limit. We just have a few adjustments to make to the sound (editing the music to our requirements and adding in background sounds etc) and shortening some of our shots.

We are staying after college on Wednesday this week to get some more done before the deadline next week.

Friday 13th March.

Today we are going to have our final filming session at Nicole's house after college. We are planning to film all the outside shots and any remaining inside shots. We have also discovered a few shots which we wish to refilm and improve.
We are currently in the process of editing our rushes, we are a bit cautious of the fact we are nearly already over our two minute limit with alot left to still complete, but we've decided to just wait and put it all together and see what happens. Nicole still has a few photos she is going to put on the blog from the previous filming session, and we plan to take more tonight to show our progression through the outside sequence.

Rushes 2

On Tues 3rd of March we continued filming. Unfortunately, however, we still could not complete all our shots due to the fact that another group didn't being back the torch we needed for outside filming. We are planning to plan another filming date very soon so we can finally complete all our rushes and concentrate more on the editing.

Titles and Credits

The Orphanage
Credits were incorporated but also set in their own separate narrative. Showed childrens' hands ripping away wallpaper to show credits beneath. This indicates that there are secrets to be uncovered at some point in the story. Also, the colour of the wallpaper was red underneath, suggesting some kind of underlying horror hidden beneath the more dull grey facade.

Vertigo
A very optical style of presenting credits, the patterns swirl out of the blackness, get closer and give the sensation of falling. The first shot is an ELS of a woman's face, this shocks the viewers and draws them in to the story. The credits themselves are in bold and are very clear - it is obvious that the makers of the film want to be known. The woman's face then turns to red (obviously, a colour traditionally associated with thrillers due to its connotations of blood, violence, anger etc) and the shot is an ELS of her eye which is quite unsettling. The next title then appears from the pupil of her eyes, and gradually comes further towards the screen until it fills the whole frame. For its time this would have been a very advanced technique and would have added to the eerie feel of the opening.

Rushes

We begun filming our footage, as planed, last Tuesday and got a substantial amount succesfully completed. However, due to various difficulties including our torch runing out of charge, not having the car we needed and the smoke alarm going off several times, we were not able to complete our rushes. However, we have re-booked the equipment for the coming Tuesday (3rd March) and are hoping to finish everything that evening. We have started editing the shots we already have, and everything is looking good (in fact, better than we had expected).
The group is generally feeling positive about our production so far.
